People are more and more aware of the problem of air pollution because that the quality of air will definitely affect our health. With the advancement of internet and communication technologies,we apply the technique of internet of things to our daily lives extensively. In this project, we have demonstrated the establishment of exemplary Low-cost air quality sensors, which is expected to meet our needs of providing more accurate references for air quality forecasting as well as prompt responses and air pollution control. There are 500 sensors deployed in Taichung City and they are mainly located in industrial areas, hospitals, schools and major roads. These 500 sensors are settled in 20 administrative districts, where covering 6 major industrial zones and 3,100 factories in Taichung. These sensors form an air quality monitoring network that can trace the source of pollution. The air quality sensor of this project can monitor granular pollutants, CO, O3, NO2, temperature and humidity. The components include motherboard, communication module, power module, gas monitoring module, and granular monitoring module. There are 10 intelligent street lamps mainly deployed in the Shuihu Economic and Trade Park, Maple Garden, the parking of Dakeng No.9 Trail and some traffic main arteries. The intelligent street lamps’ functions are inclusive of solar energy, micro weather station and water level sensing. One of the lamps is even featured in lots of functions such as smart power-saving lighting, digital signage, and CCTV. We also have developed 7 standard operating procedures as a demonstration .By following the standard operating procedures, we can make sure that those 500-point sensors maintain the normal operation. With wireless communication, the monitoring data can be completely transmitted to the EPA's Environmental Data IoT Center every 3 minutes. We perform regular inspections every three months to repair or replace sensors with poor data quality so as to keep the accuracy of data . In early days of the project, some devices made the data integrity rate lower due to power problems. However, the data integrity rate exceeded 90% after we solved the problem. Additionally, we carried out 5 publicity activities, 4 educational trainings, publicity web pages, and 4-panel comics to let the participants understand the purpose and effectiveness of this plan. Based on the successful experience of this project, all counties and cities can follow the large number of air quality sensors. Jointly building an air quality monitoring network,we expect not only to reduce illegal air pollution emissions but also improve air quality and create a better environment.
